What to Expect Guanaja, Roatan, Utila, and Cayos Cochinos are all part of the Bay Islands chain lying off the Honduras coastline. Deep walls, shallow fringe reefs and remote dive sites provide for diverse reef and pelagic marine life. Whale sharks lure experienced divers to the island of Utila from May through September, and the second longest barrier reef in the world is located off of the northern shores. Air temperatures are mid-80s to mid-60s year-round. Water temperatures range from the low 80s in the summer to the high 70s in winter. Visibility is around 80 feet, with a few shipwrecks close to dive resorts.
