FLORIDA KEYS -- WHAT TO BRING

WHAT TO BRING

DOCUMENTS
If you are a foreign national traveling to the United States, there are new regulations in place for entry into the U.S. Contact the government in your country of origin or go to the United States Customs and Border Protection website here for more information.

WHAT TO PACK
With tropical temperatures similar to the Caribbean, the Keys also enjoy a summer wet season and a winter dry season. There are few mega-malls in the Keys but there are many grocery stores and drug stores that carry most of the items you may need. Be aware that prices are a bit higher here than on the mainland, and you might want to buy your sunscreen and film before you travel.

Necessities might include:

  • Sunscreen
  • Floppy hat
  • Bathing suits
  • Cover-ups (it's Florida, but the sun is very strong)
  • Sandals/flip flops for beach-days
  • Bug spray or lotion (green if possible)
  • C-card
  • Disposable cameras/underwater camera

CLIMATE:
The weather in the Keys is mild and tropical. Much like the Caribbean, the islands are blessed with constant ocean breezes and temperatures that rarely rise above 97 degrees during the hottest part of the summer.

  • Average high temperature in the summer is 89 degrees
  • Rainy season during the summer months with brief afternoon showers
  • Summer water temperatures in the 80s, winter temps dip to 70 degrees
  • Hurricane season begins June 1st and ends Nov. 30 (many tour operators offer hurricane travel policies that cover vacation cancellations due to named hurricanes—check each policy as they differ)
