ROATAN – OWN A PIECE OF PARADISE REAL ESTATE:

According to various Internet sources, buying property on Roatan is fairly uncomplicated, with non-resident individuals being able to purchase up to three-quarters of an acre of land. Buying larger lots may require forming a Honduran corporation and all resources recommend hiring a qualified real estate attorney to guide you through this process. Obtaining clear title is an essential ingredient in any purchase of property or land and a local broker or attorney is your best bet in making sure all the documents are collected and prepared as necessary according to Honduran law.

Internet sources also indicate that owner financing is typical, with large downpayments as the usual course of business with owners financing the rest. Interestingly, you do not need to become a resident of Honduras to own property, however you may apply for residency at any time. According to our resources, the application process can be very lengthy and it's highly recommended to hire the services of a local attorney.
