WHERE IS IT
Statia is a small island located in the Netherlands Antilles, sandwiched between St. Kitts and Saba. Its physical location is in the north eastern Caribbean, 150 miles east of Puerto Rico, 90 miles east of St. Croix, 38 miles south of St. Maarten and 17 miles southeast of Saba. Statia is home to two inactive volcanoes, three beaches, historic buildings and some of the most pristine diving in the Caribbean. Statia is the third island in the "Three Ss" which include St. Maarten, Saba and Statia. Its shoreline includes the more rugged Atlantic Ocean side and the calmer, more beach-like Caribbean side.
HOW TO GET THERE
St. Eustatius is located 33 miles southwest of the coast of St. Maarten, or about a 20-minute plane ride. There are no direct flights from the U.S. to Statia currently. The best way is to fly into St. Maarten and take a short island-hopper to Statia's F. D. Roosevelt (EUX) airport, located 0.6 miles from Oranjestad. The direct phone number is (599-3) 18-2887.
Winair is the airline with the most flights out of St. Maarten to Statia. Reservations can be made though the Winair reservations office in the U.S. at 203-261-8603 or toll free 800-634-4907 or go to fly-winair.com.
You can make connections in St. Maarten (SXM) with regional and international carriers, including Caribbean Airlines, LIAT, KLM, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, US Airways and Air France.
There is no scheduled boat or ferry service to Statia, but anchorage is available at Oranje Bay marina. Prices are based on tonnage.
