On June 10, 2008, Florida's Governor Charlie Crist signed into law the Ships-2-Reefs legislation. This bill was filed in October of 2007, and according to legislative documents, it will allow surplus military vessels to be earmarked for refurbishment and use as artificial reefs. The government will also provide matching grants that will be administered by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
