A massive photograph reproduced on glass is installed at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Seven million tons of plastic end up in our oceans each year. Suspended in the water column of the North Pacific gyre, the swirling stew of plastics known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a problem so vast, many marine scientists and government agencies think cleaning it up is impossible. While many of the cleanup inventions lack feasibility, outside-the-box ingenuity just might lead to a clean ocean. Can we clean up the Pacific Garbage Patch?

Cancun prepares for 6th annual Whale Shark Festival: Every May through September, travelers come from all over the world to visit Cancun for an opportunity to encounter these gentle giants. The Festival was created to raise awareness of Cancun's marine ecosystem and of whale sharks in particular. Festivities are geared toward visitors and local children and focus on the importance of whale sharks and what they mean to the city and the environment. Check out the photos and details.
