Fish 'n Fins held the first annual Shark Week, during which we launched a non-profit organization, The Micronesian Shark Foundation, to raise awareness about sharks and their habitats. Not much research exists on sharks and Navot Bornovski, creator of Shark Week, is determined to change that. Many people from around the world participated in Shark Week. David Doubilet, world-acclaimed National Geographic photographer was present to give lectures on and slideshows featuring his award winning encounters with sharks. Peter Benchley, author of Jaws, almost made it to this year's Shark Week, but wasn't able to come after all. He might possibly come next year...
The date for Shark Week was chosen because of the mating progression of sharks in March and April. During this time the sharks are plentiful in the renowned dive sites, such as Blue Corner and Peleliu. Many people participated to see and capture in photography the lovely set of whites in a pearly smile that can only belong to a shark. Shark Week will be held annually. April 17-23, 2004, will be our next Shark Week. www.fishnfins.com, fishnfins@palaunet.com
