August 13, 2007 Kailua-Kona, Hawaii - Jack's Diving Locker summer camp program was a big success for the 2007 season! Located in the heart of dive destination Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Jack's Diving Locker has been offering programs for youths since 1987. This year marks the most successful summer to date with a total of 186 students for June and July-- double the number of last summer.
"We are dedicated to our Junior Program," states Wendy Laros, Director of Junior Programs for Jack's Diving Locker. "We offer a wide variety of camps for varying ages and skill levels. My favorite is the Sea Camp Hawaii series where we offer an in-depth study of marine life, teach the PADI Skin Diver course, introduce underwater photography, and offer the PADI Bubblemaker program in our pool the last day! The kids love it!"
Jack's Diving Locker offers Sea Camp Hawaii with different topics per camp such as a Sea Turtles, Sharks and Rays, Reef Fish & Eels, and Octopus & Invertebrates. These camps are for kids ages 8-14. In addition, this age group can join the PADI Seal Team and Master Seal Team in a scuba program offered over a two-week period with AquaMissions such as Search & Recovery, Inner Space, Wreck, Night and more.
The PADI Open Water Diver program is offered in a 5-day scuba camp where ages 10 18 can become certified scuba divers. Local teens as well as several youth groups from the mainland such as Adventures Cross Country, Boy Scouts of America, Go Adventure, and Long Acre Expeditions participated in this camp.
Certified students work toward their Jr. Master Scuba Diver rating by doing Advanced Scuba Camp, Rescue Diver Camp, and a variety of Specialty Camps such as National Geographic, Boat Diver, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Photography, Underwater Navigator, and more. Nathaniel Goodale, age 14, earned the Jr. Master Scuba Diver rating this summer after completing Rescue Diver Camp. He had earned all his other certifications by attending camps during previous school breaks and summers and had logged over 120 dives since age 10. His name is now proudly displayed on a special plaque in Jack's Diving Locker for all divers who have accomplished this achievement.
Laros concludes, "With our professional staff, beautiful facility, and Hawaii's pristine underwater environment, we have everything we need for our Junior Program. We have such positive feedback and feel like we are making a difference in the lives of these kids."
