Florida's Upper Keys Association of Dive & Snorkel Operators has partnered with Key Largo Resorts -- operators of the Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn and Marina Del Mar hotels -- to present Island Sun & Splash '06. Scheduled for June 12-16, this event will include nightly poolside entertainment, Try Scuba for adults and youngsters and the Scuba Olympics. This family-oriented event will also offer a photo scavenger hunt, allowing divers and nondivers alike to snorkel and cruise the Upper Keys, take pictures and enter them into a contest for numerous prizes. Visiting divers will also enjoy the Upper Keys Shipwreck Trail, with multiple trips to the Spiegel Grove, the Duane, the Bibb, the Eagle, the Benwood, the City of Washington and the 1733 wrecks.
In addition, underwater photographer Stephen Frink and Tom Stack will conduct photography seminars, and Frazier Nivens, an Emmy Award-winning videographer, will hold two seminars: The first will focus on shooting underwater video and the second on editing. Additional seminars will be available on the history of diving, Florida Keys history and the 1733 Spanish fleet shipwrecks.
Participating dive and snorkel operators will offer 10 percent off their normal rates and merchandise to those holding wristbands. Numerous restaurants, gift shops and attractions will also offer discounts. Wristbands may be purchased at any participating dive operator or at the Key Largo resorts. They are priced at $20 for those over age 16 and $10 for children ages 10 to 16; children under 10 will be admitted free.
