The variety of diving is as diverse as the destination – from the soft coral pinnacles Fiji is so famous for to the very popular shark dives of Beqa Lagoon, diving in Fiji is a veritable smorgasbord of dive experiences. Kick off your Fiji dive trip in Beqa Lagoon with reef and shark dives by day and Fijian culture by night, or head for Bligh Water, the large channel that separates the two main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu is frequented by live-aboards and land-based operators alike. Then there is the Somosomo Strait, a smaller channel that separates the island of Taveuni and Vanua Levu, where there is not only rich soft coral growth but dramatic plunging walls with ridges and crevasses. It is a memorable experience to emerge from the swim-through tunnel at about 90’ and see the Great White Wall, a massive wall of white soft coral that takes your breath away. There is excellent diving available out of Savusavu on the island of Vanua Levu including Namena Marine Reserve, the Great Sea Reef west of Vanua Levu, the Astrolabe Reef off the island of Kadavu south of Viti Levu, and the many sites of the Mamanucas and Yasawa chain of islands. Divers can return to Fiji again and again and never dive the same site twice – and even if they do – the site’s diversity promises to deliver a different and rewarding experience each time.
