What to Expect: Belize has the Western Hemisphere's longest barrier reef and year-round warmth on land and sea, with water temperatures from the high 70s to the mid-80s. In addition to the Belize Great Barrier Reef, Belize has thre offshore coral atolls: Turneffe Reef, Lighthouse Reef and Glovers Reef. Underwater visibility is best on offshore reefs, often attaining 100 foot clarity, or better. Divers may see nurse sharks, stingrays and whale sharks. Inland, Mayan ruins, jungle wildlife and unique handcrafts draw topside travelers.
