This western Caribbean island, just off Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, is synonymous with the words drift diving. With more than 100 dive operators, a new marine park, and accommodation levels from camp-out simple to four-star luxury, the Island of Swallows, offers diving for virtually every level of diver from raw novice to advanced deep diver. Most of the general diving is on the south of the island, though diving can be found on the north end, an area for the well-experienced diver only. Visibility is outstanding, the reefs healthy and the wildlife plentiful. Topside runs from the sublime of Mayan ruins to wild nights of partying in town.
