Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
If there's one place in the world that defines the term "dive resort," it's Grand Cayman's Sunset House. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2009, this family-owned resort has been continually refined to provide the right blend of services and amenities. Sunset House still occupies the same land, one mile from town and four miles from the airport--far enough away to avoid the hubbub. The grounds face the sea from nearly every angle, whether you're having a casual lunch under the famous thatched-roof bar, floating in the pool or sitting down to a romantic dinner at the SeaHarvest restaurant. The accommodations have been upgraded and include ocean- and courtyard-view rooms, suites and apartments. This place is favored by divers and snorkelers who appreciate the jagged, mostly rock shoreline and extensive diving programs.
Sunset Divers, a PADI Gold Palm Instructor Development Center, operates five custom dive boats, offering first-class customer service with a keen interest to show you everything possible underwater. Shore diving remains a perennial favorite and is accessible 24 hours a day. In addition to the house reef, divers can visit the 9-foot bronze mermaid, Amphitrite, and the wreck of the Nicholson, a World War II landing craft, on the very same dive. Show up with only a pair of "C" cards--certification and credit--and Sunset Divers will outfit you with late-model rental gear, including new dive computers. Nitrox is also available.
The SeaHarvest restaurant is located on property beside the pool, and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus daily. Dine al fresco along the sea or in the air-conditioned dining area surrounded by large windows for a great view of the pool and Caribbean Sea. For many, a visit to Grand Cayman would not be complete without spending time at My Bar. Capturing the essence of the tropics, My Bar is an open-sided thatched-roof bar on the water's edge. Looking west, it's the best spot to watch the sun set in a blaze of glory. Voted recently the Best Bar in the Caribbean by Caribbean Travel & Life, My Bar is one of those places you "cannot miss!"
The newest amenity at the resort is conveniently located, but tucked away in a quiet, secluded corner of the grounds. The Beyond Massage Spa offers a full range of massage services tailored for guests' specific needs.
