2010 World's Best Diving & Resorts: Cayman Aggressor IV

Every Saturday, the luxurious Belize Aggressor III casts off from Belize City for a week of hassle-free diving at Turneffe, Lighthouse Reef and the mystical Blue Hole, a collapsed cave system. Sheer walls like Painted Wall and Half Moon Caye Wall are adorned with huge crimson gorgonians and lilac rope sponges. With all dives from the mothership, diving is unlimited. Mid-week, the crew shuttles guests to Half Moon Caye for a beach walk and tour of the bird sanctuary to observe red-footed booby and frigate birds. The trip isn't complete without a visit to Belize's Mayan ruins or a cave tubing ride through the jungle. Tours are offered on Friday afternoon, but an extended stay is recommended to fully enjoy the wonders of Belize.

As I’ve discovered, Cozumel isn’t known for its currents for nothing.  Our first day, our group dropped in to about 100 feet at Punta Sur, a great site to the south of the island. And it was great — we party crashed on a school of jacks and saw plenty of pinnacles covered in sponges, gorgonians and tube corals. The current at that depth, while present, wasn’t overwhelming.
