Kids Sea Camp -- Teen Week in Grand Cayman
The Cayman Islands have gorgeous world-famous beaches, amazing views, and delicious food, but the best thing about the Cayman Islands was Kids Sea Camp with Divetech at Cobalt Coast on the north end of Grand Cayman.
Kids Sea Camp helps kids as young as five to learn about scuba diving. The various programs include: Sassy for the little kids, the Seal Team for the older kids and Junior Open Water for the kids who are old enough to earn their certification. They also offer Advanced Open Water for kids like me who are already certified and want to learn new diving skills.
Kids Sea Camp is a fun -filled week kids will never forget. Our week included sessions with marine artist Ron (Rogest) Stevens -- an expert in underwater dot paintings who worked with kids of all ages between dives. He is a blast and can get a little crazy sometimes. There were a number of other topside activities including a day trip to Boatswain's Beach turtle farm where we learned about marine life. We also had a treasure hunt with lots of cool prizes. We volunteered to help Ron with special art projects all week and raised over $1,200 to purchase seven turtles for release back into the ocean!
During our underwater diving sessions we saw some amazing things. Our dives included a night dive, scooter dive, deep dive, wreck dive, photography dive, and much more. My personal favorite dive was the scooter dive. You can ride the scooter like a bicycle, or you can use your arms to steer it without riding. The scooter wasn't the only thing that made the dive memorable -- my dad was there the whole time taking pictures of us. The scooter makes you feel as if you're flying underwater!
I received my PADI Advanced Open Water certification in Grand Cayman and my instructor Jayven was one of the best instructors I have had. He made everything fun even reading our course materials if you can believe that. It was truly a great experience. And parents get this -- your kids are taken care of all day (until 3:00 p.m.) so you too can go diving or just relax without us kids driving you crazy -- as we sometimes do!
Divetech was a really cool dive shop. They had everything there. Like underwater cameras, wet suits, scooters, food and dive tables to help you with your diving and much more. Cobalt Coast was the resort were we stayed in Grand Cayman and it was gorgeous. Our room was like a little vacation house and was located across the street from the main resort and had two rooms, a kitchen and a family room.
Margo and Tom Payton are the owners of Kids Sea Camp. They have two kids, Robbie and Jen, who we have grown up with at numerous Kids Sea Camps over the past several years. Robbie and Jen are two years apart and are both advanced divers and a lot of fun to dive and hang out with. Grand Cayman is one of the Kids Sea Camps I will never forget. I give this camp a two-thumbs-up and suggest you check it out at kidsseacamp.com. Kids Sea Camp has provided me with so many wonderful opportunities and memories with my family and new diving friends. I hope you will join me at future Kids Sea Camp locations -- I can't wait to share the underwater world with you! All the best in diving!
