Can I buy property in Curacao?
Yes, with certain restrictions. There are basically two ways to own property in Curacao:

  • Property Land
This form of ownership is considered actual ownership and property taxes will be assessed on a yearly basis as long as you own the property.
  • Long Lease Land
This is a form of ownership where the government typically allows "ownership" of the property for a period of time (whish is usually 60 years). The fee is determined by several factors and remains the same until the end of the lease, at which point the government may extend the lease.

Another consideration is financing. Typically, banks here will finance up to 70 percent of the value for non-residents and the rest is up to the purchaser.

Can I become a resident of Curacao?
The short answer is yes, but only if you meet certain criteria and apply for a residence permit. Various requirements must be met in order to be granted a residence permit.

Will I be able to work in Curacao?
You will need a work permit and be able to show that no current resident could fill the position you seek. Normally, an employer who wishes to employ you will help you with the paperwork and applying for the permit.
