Las Rocas Resort and Dive Center, West Bay
Ever wanted to be in the middle of the action and still have your own private refuge? Las Rocas Resort and Dive Center offers you just that.
Situated on West Bay, Roatan’s premiere stretch of sand, Las Rocas is just a short stroll down the beach from quaint and funky West End, the center of the action for Roatan’s younger set.
But the resort’s collection of wood-frame bungalows, clustered around a tropical garden that includes a small restaurant, bar and dive shop, is its own little world, a homey, hammock-filled oasis where the motto is “100 percent relax, zero stress.”
“That’s the good thing about a small shop,” says Mirta Marozzi, who co-owns the on-site PADI dive shop. “We’re never in a rush.”
“People come here knowing it’s a very personal experience because of the size that we are,” says Pasquale Paonessa, Las Rocas’ congenial co-owner, who gave up a career in business in Italy to start the resort in 1996. “We have a lot of repeat guests who come again and again.
“Modern life moves at a very fast pace,” he says, smiling as he recalls his escape from the rat race. “That doesn’t apply here.”
