The Maldives is a collection of 1,192 islands - most of which are just above sea level - clustered off the coast of India. Five different countries share ownership of the islands, so cultures vary from quite primitive to high-tech. The island chain trickles down the Indian Ocean from near the coast of India to the equator. Most people who come to the islands are diving visitors. Visibility is best between September and May. Reefs teem with unusual species of fish. Tidal currents can be quite strong in passes and channels. For more information about diving the Maldives, click onto the Island Dreams home page below.
