2010 World's Best Diving & Resorts: Ocean Hunter I & III

The Ocean Hunter vessels are Palau's most luxurious, exclusive live-aboard fleet. The Ocean Hunter III carries 17 divers in eight air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms and has the best ratio of boat space per diver. It also offers a large camera deck. Ocean Hunter I carries six divers in three air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms. Avid divers find the fleet the most professional operation in Palau and best value for their money. A 7-day trip aboard Ocean Hunter includes seven full days of diving (not 5.5 days as most live-aboards in Palau offer). The vessels also make special trips to Angaur, Velasco reef, South West Islands of Palau, Yap and Truk Lagoon. Also available are nitrox and technical diving.

Tova and Navot, Ocean Hunter I & III owners, have lived in Palau since 1993 and look after their guests throughout the trip. Ocean Hunter's local captains and dive guides know Palau's waters since childhood and will take divers to the right dive spot at the right time (they can differentiate a once-in-a-lifetime dive from an ordinary dive). Onboard, guests are served gourmet low-fat food and the chefs can accommodate special dietary requests. Ocean Hunter can arrange booking for individuals and groups, and can assist with airline tickets and hotels in Palau.

And it was great — we party crashed on a school of jacks and saw plenty of pinnacles covered in sponges, gorgonians and tube corals. The current at that depth, while present, wasn’t overwhelming.
