Desecheo Island
With Taino Divers at the lead, participants head to the small island of Desecheo, about a 40-minute boat ride. The island is off-limits to land-based tourism, but the reefs surrounding the island are fair game for divers. The island's waters offer notable underwater scenery: bombs. The unexploded kind. Divers here are warned to "tap" the artillery only after any overhead boat engine noise has faded well into the distance. While the artillery is an interesting diversion, here the main attraction is the abundance of fans, sponges, interesting caverns and swim-throughs.
