A 16-passenger live-aboard that cruises the best dive spots off Saba Island and St. Kitts.The first liveaboard dive boat to offer weekly dive excursions to the world-famous Saba Marine Park and St. Kitts, the Caribbean Explorer has been cruising and exploring the waters of the Northeastern Caribbean since 1987. Home Port:The 16-passenger vessel departs each Saturday with passengers and seven crew from her base at Bobby's Marina in Philipsburg, St. Maarten. The Vessel:Eight air-conditioned double cabins on board. Each has a full-size double bed, sink and vanity; there is a bathroom for every two cabins. Crew:A crew of seven, including 4 dive instructors, caters to the needs of our 16 guests. Diving:Five dives are scheduled every day, in addition to optional island tours. All diving is done directly off of the vessel, using the expansive dive deck which covers the aft third of the main deck. Entries are usually made from the side exit gates into the water, a drop of 5 feet or so. Weather Conditions:The weather in the Eastern Caribbean is remarkably consistent year-round. The temperatures range from the 70's (F) or higher in the winter months to the 90's during the summer, with constant sea breezes. Water Conditions:Water temperatures range from a low of about 76 degrees F in winter to a high of about 85 degrees F in summer. There is normally little appreciable current at the sites we visit, and visibility is generally between 75 and 150 feet. Diver Facilities: Each diver has his or her own dive gear bin; a large camera table, as well as rinse tanks, wetsuit drying racks, charging stations and the like are available for all to use. Tanks are filled in place between each dive, so that there is never any need to disassemble your gear. Main Salon:A large air-conditioned salon serves as the main gathering place for meals, slide shows and movies; an additional shaded bar and entertainment center is available on the sundeck. Onboard Services:E-6 processing is available, as are both PADI scuba courses and dive gear and dive computer rentals.
