Dreamtime Dive Resort is located in the small fishing village of Mahahual (ma-ha-wol), Mexico on the border of Belize. Also known as the Costa Maya.  Although still a small fishing village, it is on the cusp of big change.  The local fishermen have become dive-boat captains; sharing their intimate knowledge of the reef with enthusiastic divers, making the once secret dive paradise a now widely known destination.  

Your adventure to Dreamtime begins with a southerly trip from Cancun through a few of the last remaining Mayan towns in the Yucatan.  Once you arrive in Mahahual you will find yourself immersed in a culture of relaxation and hospitality.  You might as well shove those shoes under your bed for the duration because this beach front paradise is a 100-percent barefoot kind of place.  Calm waters lap the beach, palm trees cast shadows on the sand, and hammocks swing in the shade while the rest of the world races on.

DIVING
Until now, diving in Mahahual, Costa Maya, Mexico, has been a closely kept secret. Very few divers were aware of this hidden jewel. Although awareness is rapidly growing, the government is determined to maintain its local culture and charm. Here you will find the atmosphere of the real Caribbean, white sandy beaches, palm trees, mangroves, and above all unspoiled dive sites.  Perfect for the diver who is looking for an experience different from all others.  Diving Mahahual is now the most sought after adventure in the dive community.  In the November/December 2005 Sport Diver magazine, Mahahual is described as “Maha-WOW!”  

The local diving takes place on the magnificent Meso-American Barrier Reef system, the largest barrier reef system in the Northern Hemisphere. The reef system here is extremely healthy and is in pristine condition. The dive sites are known for their abundance of beautiful corals and extraordinary reef formations, creating astonishing swim-throughs and ledges. Common marine life experienced on these dives include turtles, lobsters, stingrays, nurse sharks, eels, king crabs, and barracuda, as well as a variety of tropical reef fish such as damsels, butterfly fish, pork fish, parrot fish, and schools of Creole wrasse and blue tangs.  Some divers have even spotted migrating whale sharks in this area.
