Rock The Ocean's Tortuga Music Festival
Date: April 13-14
Location: Ft. Lauderdale Beach, Florida
The sands of Fort Lauderdale Beach will be turned into our oceanfront festival grounds, making Tortuga Fest a music and ocean lover’s paradise. Fans will enjoy music performances with the sun and stars above, an ocean breeze in the air, and sand under their feet. Local culinary fair, sustainable seafood as well as traditional festival favorites will be served.
In partnership with Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and Ocean Conservancy, a one-of-a-kind Conservation Village will be located on site to educate audience members and provide them with the information and tools they need to help preserve the world’s oceans.
Festival creators Rock The Ocean and HUKA Entertainment are partnering with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. RTO founder, Chris Stacey said, “in addition to being a world-renowned artist, Dr. Guy Harvey is a world-class conservationist. Our team is great at creating amazing concert experiences, and Guy and his team know how to help save the world's oceans.”
“This is not your average music festival,” stated producer AJ Niland. “This festival will showcase world-class talent, with world-class amenities on a world-class beachfront setting. More importantly, it is a festival with a purpose.”
“Live music and the beachfront are rooted in the Landshark lifestyle,” said Michael Lourie, Landshark Lager brand manager. “In teaming up with Rock the Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival, we’re excited to showcase a weekend of great music while we raise awareness about the collective responsibility we have to care for our coastlines.”

This annual event aims to accomplish this by cross-marketing to people with active lifestyles similar to the most active diving customer. For details, go to Greater Fort Lauderdale or read the Festival Fact Sheet.
New Scholarship Opportunity Announced for High School Scuba Divers
Deadline: Sept. 15, 2013
A group of ocean lovers and certified Scuba divers with a passion for the marine environment announced the founding of the National Marine Conservation Scholarship (NMCS) for high school seniors who are also certified Scuba divers, as a way to ensure that the ocean environment is preserved for future generations.
Each year, starting with the high school class of 2014, the NMCS will award a $500 scholarship to three National Marine Conservation Scholars, along with naming up to 5 other Finalists and up to 10 other Semi‐Finalists.
Applicants will be judged on a combination of an essay; academic and scholastic achievements; extracurricular activities; and commitment to Scuba as measured by certification level and qualifications. The essay must be 400‐600 words, and the topic for the Class of 2014 is: “How has my experience with Scuba increased my interest in / awareness of / or commitment to marine conservation?"
By providing scholarships to high school seniors who are also certified Scuba divers, it is the goal of NMCS to enable young scholars to continue to dive, study, and preserve the marine environment with passion, as “a gift from an our generation to the next generation” according to group members who prefer to remain anonymous.
Applicants must be high school students graduating in the class of 2014 who are also certified scuba divers by either PADI or NAUI. Applications must be received by September 15, 2013, and winners will be announced by October 15, 2013.
