 SCUBAPRO MK25/S600
Our test crew agreed that the MK25/S600 delivers the best performance, hands down, of any reg in our group. It obliterated the machine tests and offered dry, effortless breathing in all positions while diving. Specifically, we liked the first stage's swivel port for easy hose routing and the second stage's updated purge. The latter also offers the VIVA (dive/pre-dive venturi-initiated vacuum assist adjustment) switch and breathing-resistance knob for dialing performance at depth. MSRP $695 CONTACT scubapro.com

Weighing in at a respectable 2 pounds, it has a compact first stage and moderate-size second stage. The second stage gives divers a venturi assist and does an excellent job of dispersing bubbles, thanks to a new exhaust tee design. We also like that it can be set up for left- or right-hand use.
