Having the right dive equipment can make a big difference to your scuba diving experience. Here are some of our best tips, tricks and strategies about getting the most out of your diving wetsuits and drysuits.
Forgiveness Isn’t Fit
The new generation of super-stretch neoprene has brought unprecedented comfort to diving wetsuits. But this same resilience can also allow an improperly fitting suit to be worn with reasonable success — at least in the short term. When trying dive suits, check for areas that are unduly stretched.
Rinse Cycle
A quality scuba diving wetsuit represents a fairly substantial investment. You can protect that investment with regular rinsing and periodic cleaning with a dedicated wetsuit conditioner. Avoid hot water, and don’t leave diving suits to dry in direct sunlight.
Respect the Rubber
Neoprene is resilient, but not impervious to damage. Improperly folded or poorly-rolled diving wetsuits can develop permanent creases, damp, enclosed storage bins can encourage mold, and thin clothes-style hangers can stress and damage shoulder areas.
Dry Inside
Aside from a proper fit, the most important ingredient to diving drysuit comfort is undergarment selection. The latest generation of insulating underwear provides not only warmth but also superior wicking properties that trap perspiration to prevent a clammy interior environment.
