From the Valenza Trip Journal:

Day 9

Today we were fortunate enough to sleep in until 9:00, which gave us some much needed beauty sleep. As we awoke, we were told that unfortunately we weren't sailing to Saba because of the tropical storm. However, even though it rained all morning, we still had one of the best days of the trip. After breakfast we all lounged around and corrected our knowledge reviews towards our Advanced Open Water Diver Certification. This was a long and grueling process because everyone was really tired and constantly shouting out random answers (Peter).

Then we began our training to become Rescue Divers. We split into two groups, one with Jordan at the boat and one with Tiffany at the beach. On the beach, Maggie, Emma and Natalie entertained themselves by collecting pretty stones that they said they were going to give friends as presents. Training with Jordan consisted of towing tired and panicked divers. The best exercise was the panicked diver, which consisted of Jordan panicking and trying to drown every person that came within reach. It took forever for each person to get him under control and tow him to the boat. Once everyone was done laughing hysterically, it was time for a much needed lunch of tuna and PB & J sandwiches.

After lunch, Sarah and Tiffany kept themselves busy by putting gold gel in Ben and Logan's hair. Once everyone had slept, once again, the two rescue diving teams switched (Jordan's group went to the beach with Tiffany and visa versa). In the second group, Scott was the quickest to control Jordan's panicking with a time of three minutes. Meanwhile, on the beach Tiffany was relaying her life story to Sarah, Joe, Miriam, Ellie and Trevor, delaying training. When they finally did train they practiced towing an unconscious diver to shore and basic life support.

Once everyone was finished training, heavy preparations went underway for Big Joe's birthday which included: Sarah and Ellie baking a beautiful cake, Trevor and Scott making delicious Hawaiian stir fry, Anne hanging up streamers, Peter making a sign on the whiteboard, and Jordan, Ben, Logan and Peter dressing up in sarongs and dancing for Joe. After preparations were finished, the celebration began. Joe was thrilled and very excited about his party, especially the dancing boys.

After a massive clean up, Ben, Jordan, Logan and Trevor water-ballooned the nearest boat, Xenon. They were successful in soaking four people and riling up many more. After that, the only people with enough energy to stay up were the counselors, who enjoyed a long night of cards. We're finally off to Saba in the morning!
