CuracaoSince Curacao is surrounded by a fringing reef created by ancient geological events, dozens of dive sites are just steps from the road. Like Bonaire, Curaçao’s west coast boats painted stones that mark a number of excellent shore dives, only here the stones are red instead of yellow. This side of the island tends to have calm conditions, and the seafloor slopes off quickly, so you’ll get into the meat of the dive right away. Because Curacao has a marine-park authority that’s intent on keeping the island’s ocean ecosystem healthy, you can also count on encountering thriving marine life everywhere you go. Standout shore-dive sites include Playa Lagun, Playa Kalki, Janthiel Baai, Cas Abao and the famous Superior Producer wreck.
