What do sexy coffee, saltwater crocodiles and the most memorable souvenir we've seen in the Caribbean have in common? These ranked among some of our favorite unexpected finds during the girls-only Mexican escape featured in the October issue of Sport Diver magazine.
My annual Mexico migration starts with a 9 a.m. liftoff from Colorado. I'm
drift diving in Cozumel by midafternoon. Come evening, I'm downing icy
cervezas with amigos I've known for years — all this and not even 12 hours
I'm in the middle of a jungle, dangling off a sheer cliff. From deep within
the green below, the spectral calls of howler monkeys fill the air. As I'm
hanging over the treetop canopy, I've got quite a view. A toucan lands
nearby, then quickly flits off. A baby boa sleeps in the branches of a tree.
The Mexican Caribbean stretches down the coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula
from Cancun south to Tulum. The variety of activities boggles the mind
from snorkeling in cenotes to long hikes through the jungle, to journeys back
in time to visit Mayan ruins .. the activities are endless.
