Riding Rock Resort and MarinaAerial view of Riding Rock Resort
The small island of San Salvador in the Bahamas, just 360 miles southeast of Miami, is one of the premier scuba diving and fishing meccas of the world and home to Riding Rock Resort and Marina. Custom-designed for dive travelers, the resort offers 42 standard pool view and deluxe oceanfront rooms.
Especially popular with guests as well as locals is the Driftwood Restaurant and Bar. This oceanfront restaurant specializes in American and Bahamian cuisine with an accent on fresh fish, served in a friendly, casual atmosphere with ocean views. Portions and menus are designed to be hearty to accommodate hungry divers! The adjoining bar provides a Wi-Fi hot spot where the after-dive crowd can mix and mingle.
Most of the diving takes place among the 50-plus dive sites that are located on the island’s lee side, so rough seas are rarely encountered. Dive boats leave the marina at 9 a.m. each morning for a two-tank morning dive before returning to the resort for lunch. The afternoon dive leaves at approximately 2:30 p.m. for the one-tank. The dive sites are almost all walls, so the possibility of going deep is available, though divers need not go deeper than 40 feet to reach the reef if they prefer to keep a shallow profile. Shark lovers will be pleased to hear that San Salvador is home to many shark species, the scalloped hammerheads being a favorite with visiting divers.
Riding Rock makes it easy for guests to budget for their trip by including everything in the Island Escape Package price: accommodations, three hearty meals daily, three dives daily, San Salvador Airport transfers to/from the resort, glass of wine with dinner, and all taxes. The only add-ons are the bar tab, any personal purchases and dive staff gratuities.
