The residents of Utila and the staff of Laguna Beach Resort, an exclusive diving, fishing and beach getaway, would love to welcome you to the smallest and most unspoiled of the Bay Islands of Honduras.
Laguna Beach’s elegantly designed property is set on a lushly landscaped private peninsula that separates a tranquil mangrove lagoon from the warm Caribbean Sea. This quaint resort provides privacy with bungalow-style accommodations nestled at the lagoon’s edge and perfect sunset views. The beautiful ocean-view restaurant and bar, built from natural woods, continue the resort’s rustic theme and complements the island ambience.
Utila sits atop the second-largest fringing coral reef in the world. The outer banks are home to dolphins and whalesharks. Laguna Beach Resort has an on-property dive center and a fleet of four Newton dive boats — Island Time, Over Time, Show Time and Another Time. The smallest dive boat is a 36-footer with a 14-foot beam. The resort never hosts more than 40 divers at once, so you’ll have plenty of room to enjoy your adventure, whether you’re on the boat, on shore or on the reef.
Seven miles long and three miles across, Utila is set between a fringing coral reef and a 2,000-foot-deep continental shelf, making it a divers’ mecca. Utila is also famous for its year-round whaleshark encounters. Nondiving companions have much to choose from: snorkeling, fishing for tarpon and bonefish, enjoying the fish-shaped 68-foot pool (with a whaleshark mosaic on the bottom), kayaking and horseback riding and getting to know an eclectic blend of diverse cultures (along with the handicrafts that go with them) make the area an exciting experience for all visitors.
“Unspoiled” and “undiscovered” are words that are bandied about a lot when it comes to Caribbean dive travel. But Utila and Laguna Beach Resort are two entities that truly lie at the frontier of Bay Islands diving. We look forward to sharing that with you.
