2012 World’s Best Diving Resorts: Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort

Come and explore an undiscovered paradise on the north coast of Roatán, Honduras. At Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort, guests enjoy the personal service that only a small dive resort can offer. Located on Roatán’s northeast shore, Turquoise Bay is the only dive resort in this lush and remote area, introducing divers to uncrowded, pristine sites.

Roatán sits atop the second-largest barrier reef in the world — and one of the healthiest in the Caribbean — due to the involvement of the Roatán Marine Park and local divers encouraging conservation. The north side of the island offers the largest variety of reef topography, with sloping plateaus perfect for spotting macro life, sheer walls with large soft corals and barrel sponges, wreck dives abundant with life, crevices, trenches, overhangs and cavern systems such as two of the most popular sites, Underground and Dolphin’s Den.

Subway Watersports, an elite PADI Five Star Instructor Development Resort and the on-site dive center, offers north- and southside diving and valet service for small groups of six to 12 divers per boat. Turquoise Bay offers a Learn to Dive program and special family-package pricing so the whole family can dive together.

The resort offers hillside bungalows set amongst tropical gardens. Enjoy rooms with stylish Caribbean decor — the main feature being the turquoise sea only yards from your door. Take a Central American tour on site by staying in our  “Central America” building — each room decorated with signature items from a different country — then delight in our chef’s creativity, showcasing a wealth of local and regional flavours.

Guests can also enjoy relaxing on the private beach or pool deck with full service, kayaking around mangrove islands, or choosing from a selection of cultural and adventure tours.

Accommodations: Twenty-six rooms with air conditioning, private bath with hot and cold water, balcony, cable TV with U.S. channels, telephone and Internet access, and are available with two double beds or one king-size bed
Amenities:
Ocean-view restaurant and bar, pool, private beach, kayaks, pedal boats, tour desk and event planning
