Friends and Guests of Dreamtime Dive Resort: Sorry for the delayed response, as you can imagine things have been quite hectic and we are now bracing for Hurricane Felix. First I want to thank you for the hundreds of inquiries about Dreamtime, the little village of Mahahual and the Costa Maya region. We didn't realize our impact on the diving community and the many friends we've made throughout the world. Your kind words and prayers have given us the strength we need to handle the challenges ahead.

As most of you know, the eye of Hurricane Dean made landfall in Mahahual, Mexico (Costa Maya) on August 22nd at 3:30am. Dean was a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of over 165 mph and gusts up to 200 mph. Weather experts believe that it was the most powerful hurricane to make landfall in over 40 years.

As you can imagine, its impact on the hidden paradise of Mahahual was devastating. Words can't describe what was left in Dean's wake. Many businesses and homes in Mahahual were destroyed as well most of the Costa Maya cruise ship pier.

Dreamtime wasn't spared the wrath of Hurricane Dean - our resort facility was completely destroyed. However, our dive facility sustained only mild damage; in fact, we expect the dive center to be fully operational within a few weeks.

Mahahual and the Costa Maya region will take time to rebuild; but I'm confident that visitors' will be impressed with the results and the new face of our paradise. I'm also pleased to report that the Mexican government has mobilized a tremendous amount of resources to begin restoring this special place on the Mayan Caribbean.

Although there's much work to be done, the Dreamtime staff is not viewing this situation as a defeat, but embracing the rebuilding opportunity as a "New Beginning". We've already drawn up plans to make Dreamtime Dive Resort even better than it was before.

Several things won't change... Dreamtime will maintain its philosophy of diver safety and education, ocean preservation and eco-friendly alternatives. And as many of you have experienced, the ocean off Costa Maya continues to hold a beauty and fascination that's unequaled.

Many have asked how to help the recovery effort. First and foremost - COME BACK!!! Schedule your next vacation and dive adventure in Costa Maya! It will again be the vacation and diver's paradise it once was and more.

Within two to three months we should have sufficient infrastructure in the Costa Maya area to begin welcoming back visitors.
