Florida Divers Will Attempt to Set New World Record for Underwater Human Chain
In 2017, 308 divers in Italy set the current world record for the longest human chain underwater. Now divers in Florida are looking to be the new record-holders. According to a Facebook post by Dixie Divers, based in Deerfield Bech, Florida they are actively trying to recruit 400 divers to participate in the Guinness World Record attempt.
The World Record attempt date is scheduled for June 16, 2018, at the International Fishing Pier in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The event is free to the public but if you plan to dive, you must register in advance here, and of course, be a certified open-water diver.
When we called Dixie Divers to ask about the event, Tony Neto excitedly explained that you are able to register with a group of divers as part of a "team." Neto also shared that "we are looking to reclaim the record after the Italians beat our previous record."
According to an Instagram post, dated April 16, 2018, they are halfway to meeting their goal of registering 400 divers.
