Comfortable and surprisingly powerful for its size, the Scubapro GO was our Testers Choice for barefoot fins.

We tested the GO fin at Alexanders Springs in Central Florida, where test divers scored it in 12 different categories, including efficiency, power, acceleration and comfort. Aimed at travelers, the GO is both light and compact - just a little over 1 ¼ pounds each and 20 ½ inches long in size ML. It also has a nifty clip on the blade so you can bungee them together for carrying. That makes the GO great for the suitcase, but it turns out it’s even better in the water. While short, the blade is wide and set at a steep 25-degree angle to the foot pocket, and the rails and ridges on the blade are deep. That lets it work like a bigger fin, resulting in very good scores for kicking in flutter, frog and alternate styles, and for acceleration. “Kicked like a much larger fin,” was a typical test diver comment. In fact, the GO earned very good scores in all but three categories: donning and doffing, where it earned excellent scores thanks to the ergonomic bungee and slipper-like foot pocket; and fit/comfort, where its score was just good. That’s no rap on the GO; barefoot fins are simply less forgiving of foot size and shape than open heel fins that have the padding of your boots.

Available in 5 sizes from 3XS to XL, the GO seemed sized a little small to us, though they fit all but our biggest-footed test divers. The Scubapro GO was ScubaLab’s Testers Choice for barefoot fins.
