Rescue Efforts Continue for Underwater Filmmaker Rob Stewart off Florida Keys

The dive community has come together to help search for underwater photographer and filmmaker Rob Stewart, who went missing around 5 p.m. Tuesday while diving off Islamorada in the Florida Keys.

Stewart, 37, was diving about 6 miles offshore on the Queen of Nassau wreck when he was last seen. He was seen on the water’s surface, but went back under and could not be found, according to Tyler MacLeod, who set up a GoFundMe page for Stewart’s rescue. The Coast Guard has been searching for Stewart with multiple boats and helicopters pitching in. As of Thursday morning, divers were encouraged to call the Key West command center at 305-292-8729 if they are able to help. They are looking for search and rescue divers who can go to depths of about 280 feet.

Stewart, a Toronto native, is best known for his award-winning film Sharkwater. According to a recent Instagram post, he was filming a sequel to Sharkwater in the Florida Keys.
