Destination: St. Maarten

Home port for the Caribbean Explorer While not a major dive destination, St. Maarten does offer some sites for those eager to take the plunge. Two wrecks are popular as well as the shallow reefs that also make the area great for snorkelers. Visibility ranges from 60 to 80 feet around Philipsburg where most of the sites are located. If you're making the island your home base, there are several day trips to nearby Saba, St. Barths, and Anguilla that may spark your interest as well if you're planning on a few days of diving. If you have more free time, there are always the casinos. St. Maarten is home port for a popular live-aboard. The Caribbean Explorer departs each Saturday from Philipsburg for week-long diving excursions to the Saba Marine Park and St. Kitts; island access and cultural and historical tours are available at each stop.
