Historic Advances For International Shark and Ray Conservation

We’re celebrating! Project AWARE, its partners and the entire dive community recently rejoiced as 21 shark and ray species were added to the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS).

Divers and shark advocates sent nearly 29,000 letters to delegates of the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties, urging them to take action for sharks and rays. As well as amplifying the divers’ voice and the economic benefits of associated tourism, Project AWARE also highlighted the underwater perspective of marine debris, with CMS member nations agreeing to advance international cooperation necessary to effectively tackle the problem.

Project AWARE brought the voice of divers to #CMSCoP11 and now 21 species of sharks and rays are listed under CMS. But CMS listing is just the beginning - help Project AWARE continue their work at projectaware.org!
