Broken mask straps, worn-out O-rings, torn mouthpieces — these are the last-second disasters that can ruin a dive. If you're unprepared, that is. Make sure you're never caught with your wetsuit down — so to speak — and get prepared with a save-a-dive kit. It will also make you a lot of friends on the dive boat. Check out the video below to see some common items that could come in handy in your save-a-dive kit.

How to create a save-a-dive dive kit

  • Customize your kit with tools and parts you’re mostly to need
  • Carry a selection of zip ties
  • Small multi-use tools are a must for minor repairs and adjustments
  • Stock a few O-rings in the right sizes and types
  • Have an O-ring pick and some silicone lube
  • (Remember that high O2 gas mixes require special O-rings and lube)
  • Keep a replacement for frequently lost or damaged parts (mask strap retainer, hose clip, octo holder)
  • Carry a spare battery and O-ring for computer and other electronics
