VIDEO: Divers Save Tangled Manta Ray

Divers Thomaz Monteiro and Flavia Passaglia of Oceano VideoSub, both from Brazil, were diving at Bat Islands, Costa Rica, when a peaceful manta approached them. Brian Thompson, another diver who was present, began to gently cut fishing net off the manta.

The divers made sure to pick up the freed line so it would not entangle another unsuspecting marine animal. They claim that it is their "trophy now," and that the diver who cut the line gave a little piece to all of the divers who were there.

Recently, new video published by Oceano VideoSub's YouTube shows new footage of the divers swimming with the same manta weeks later. The scars on the mantas right side confirm its identity, and it's pretty obvious this giant is quite happy to be free.
