Dive News: Divers Direct Aquires Ocean Divers of Key Largo, Florida Keys

Ocean Divers operates the largest fleet of dive charters in Florida from their own dock and facilities.

Web Wire Press Release

Holiday Diver Inc., parent company of Divers Direct announced an agreement to acquire Ocean Divers in Key Largo, Upper Florida Keys. The March 30 news WebWire release states the deal is expected to close on June 1.

This announcement comes shortly after Holiday Diver announced that it will be acquiring Pirate Island Divers as well.

Near Divers Direct's largest dive store in Key Largo, Ocean Divers operates the largest fleet of dive charters in Florida from their own dock and facilities. Ocean Divers also handles a PADI Career Development Center, which trains scuba diving instructors for recreational and tech-diving courses. Divers also leases some of its property to tenants, including a restaurant-bar and a hyperbaric chamber called NOAA.

The current owners of Ocean Divers, Joe Clark and Robert "Doc" Schweinler are on their way to the well-deserved retirement after years of dedication to Key Largo scuba diving, after starting the company in 1975. “We’re extremely happy to hand over the reins to Divers Direct. They’ve been good neighbors in Key Largo for over 30 years and we trust them to take care of our customers while bringing Ocean Divers to the next level” Schweinler said in the release.

Holiday Diver plans to continue the Ocean Divers operation as a separate entitiy in order to separate from its six large Divers Direct Florida retail stores.

"With Pirate Island and Ocean Divers, we’ll be able to offer a complete range of scuba diving and water sport adventures on both side[s] of the island of Key Largo, and we are very excited about the numerous opportunities for additional services and training programs," Divers Direct's president and PADI Course Director, Darcy Kieran said in the release.
