Step Up to Tec Diving During BonaireTeK at Buddy Dive Resort
Every year, Buddy Dive Resort and Buddy Dive Tek host the largest and most respected technical diving event in the Caribbean, BonaireTeK. This action-packed week of technical dive demonstrations, presentations and training gives participants the chance to try the newest tec equipment such as rebreathers, hear presentations from expert tec-diving guest speakers and make multiple dives that develop their skills and confidence. This year, the event is co-sponsored by Dive Rite, DAN, Silent Diving, Scubatron, Shearwater, Fathomdive and PADI. Since 2007, when Buddy Dive TeK was launched, its mission has been to provide quality technical support and training to its customers and guests at Buddy Dive and on Bonaire.

Technical divers of all skill levels—whether experienced or brand-new—will benefit from attending this event. “Newer tec divers have an opportunity to gain experience in a low-stress environment,” says Anouck Schmitz, Buddy Dive’s Tec Dive Coordinator. “Divers have the chance to exchange ideas and opinions from not just other divers but also manufacturers.”
BonaireTeK is scheduled for September 27 to October 3, 2025. Participants will be introduced to a variety of technical diving experiences, including deep, wreck, sidemount and CCR diving. “The special guests who attend share their knowledge and experience by doing presentations on various subjects or giving attendees the opportunity to try out various equipment” in a safe and supportive environment, Schmitz says. Equipment tryouts are at no cost, which is a major benefit.

Buddy Dive TeK is a 100% rebreather-friendly facility, with different-size rebreather cylinders and CO2 absorbent available. The state-of-the-art filling station has two booster pumps capable of reaching high pressure fills of oxygen and trimix. The staff is trained on different CCR units, such as the X-CCR and the O2ptima CCR, including an instructor on the O2ptima. If you’re diving doubles or sidemount, Buddy Dive Tek can provide the necessary equipment as well as backplates with harness, wings, regulators, spools, Delayed Surface Marker Buoys (DSMBs) and everything else you need.
Buddy Dive TeK also offers a large variety of technical diving courses, from try-out sessions for those not qualified yet and more advanced courses for those who want to extend their knowledge. GUE and PADI programs are offered, from student to instructor levels. Courses can be taught in English, Dutch and German.
Immediately following BonaireTeK 2026, Buddy Dive will offer a Tec Instructor Trainer course, training you to the level of PADI Tec 50 trimix instructor.
“Bonaire’s location in the south Caribbean places it below the hurricane belt, resulting in very mild weather and sea conditions for the vast majority of the year,” says Schmitz. “Combined with the warm water—even down to depths over 300 feet/100 meters—is the easy access to dive sites that can offer those depths without having to go far from shore.”
