Great White Shark Shocks Divers with a Visit

When it comes to chance underwater encounters, seeing a great white shark on an open-water dive may just be No. 1.

Divers travel across the globe to spots such as Isla Guadalupe, Mexico, South Africa and South Australia for the chance to spot these majestic sharks from inside cages. These experiences are specially tailored to see great whites — these sharks don’t just show up on many open-water dives.

So imagine the surprise when one pops out of the blue off Cape Schanck in Victoria, Australia. These divers with RedBoats Diving, a tour agency based in Portsea, Australia, were exploring in the kelp when this mammoth fish decided to swim around for a look.

“No threatening behaviour at all. Truly a rare encounter, envied by many,” wrote the operator on Facebook.

That’s a dive that will not soon be forgotten.
