Since forever, underwater photographers have had to improvise when it came to getting the shots that require the stability and control of a tripod, like working with extreme macro lenses or timed exposures. This meant taking a land tripod underwater, weighting it down, and watching it corrode away. Ultra Light Control Systems, the makers of all things related to strobe arms and trays, saw the need and seized the moment. Their first foray was to design a connection head that would convert three of their longest arms into a tripod. Building on its success they have now created a fully functional tripod that is not only bulletproof but also easy to use underwater. The Tripod offers a lockable Pan and Tilt function with extendable legs, all of which can be operated one-handed. The legs extend from 11-inches to 18-inches and are finished with sharp points for traction on rocks and snap-on balls for soft or sandy surfaces. Large knobs allow for quick and easy leg extension.

In the water the Tripod was easy to operate even with gloves. A large control knob sets the leg angle and a soft grip handle allows the Pan and Tilt functions to move smooth and steady. The aluminum construction was light but strong and offered good stability for both still and video camera housings. Even with the legs fully extended it was stable with very little flex. As a bonus it's light and can be disassembled easily for travel, and unlike land tripods, will withstand the test of time in the water.
